I shot the M9-A1 and loved everything about it except for one thing: the grip angle. Like a Glock, the grip angle is too big. If the Steyr pointed naturally I'd have bought one in 2007 (when they were selling for $350!), but since it naturally points about 10 degrees above horizontal for me, that was a deal-breaker. I have a Steyr M9-A1 and have done a range report on it here on the forum. The Steyr M-9 is very similar to the Glock although it looks radically different.

If it will be a carry pistol, you must consider that the Steyrs do not have a firing pin block safety system. Steyr claims that the partially cocked striker does have sufficient amount of energy to ignite the primer even if it accidently falls. They also claim that the sear to striker nose contact depth is much more than the slide to frame rail tolerances and it is impossible for the sear to let the striker move forward accidently unless the trigger is pulled. But sorry, in a such kind of shooting system, it is not my cup of tea.
The Steyr triggers are too much stiff and they never progress by shooting.
Many claims that the extraction and empty shell throwing to the shooter's head problems are solved, but between the three Steyr M9A1 pistols around my neighbourhood, I observe the opposite. Steyr pistols are much more subject to maintenance than the Glocks.
If it matters, the general workmanship of the Glocks on the metal surfaces away much better than the Steyr M9s including the barrel and its feed ramp.
So my vote goes to the ugly, but functional B-lock.

so I'm looking to get either a Glock 19 or a Steyr C9-A1 in the near future. I've been reading some glowing reviews about the Steyr's trigger and general build quality over the Glock. I am a fan of the HK45 and P30 (.40 S&W) given the excellent SA trigger and acceptable DA. Primary purpose will be range and primary pistol class firearm with use in USPSA/IDPA possible.
Concerns:
finding a holster for the Steyr C9 (blade tech offerings seem adequate though)
accessories/upgrades for the Glock actually exist and the trigger could be dramatically changes with a couple of aftermarket offerings.
I guess it comes down to the Steyr is better out of the box but the Glock can be modded til my heart is content. Thoughts?
